Cabling
We can design and source a structured cabling system to suit your immediate and future requirements. We perform copper installations to Category 5, 5E and 6 standards and also Fibre Optic. For clients who require complete building solutions we can help with cabling for Tannoy, music, video/audio, security, lighting and power.

Virtual Private Networking (VPN)
With the advent of low(er) cost broadband Internet links such as ADSL, Virtual Private Networking becomes possible. VPN is a way of linking individuals to sites, sites to sites and individual to individuals via the Internet but SECURELY with no possible trespassing by other Internet users. This means that if you are working out of the country, you could dial the Internet from a local connection and then 'drill down' into your office back in the UK to access you applications and email. You could even have an audio or video phone call over the same link at the same time. All for the cost of a LOCAL call.

Radio Lan
Where local circumstances do not allow for standard cabling (e,g, buildings on opposite sides of a dual carriageway) we can identify a suitable Radio LAN solution to resolve both data and telephone issues. Another use for Radio LAN equipment is with portable computers releasing users from the need to 'plug in' - simply walk in, switch on and you computer is linked to the LAN. This is also useful where final room design has not been completed and desks (& therefore cabling points) will be moved around.

With directional antenna, you can extend Radio LAN links to or more allowing buildings separated by a considerable distance (11 miles at 11Mbs or 23 miles at 2Mbs) to be connected at a fraction of the cost of a dedicated leased line.

Telephone (& also videoconferencing) facilities can also be sent over such a link.

Server Hardware & Software
With Servers from all major manufacturers having dropped considerably in pricing over the last few years, most small companies can now afford a dedicated solution. We can project manage your installation and source hardware & software from most major manufacturers to provide competetive pricing and excellent service.

Microsoft have added even more functionality to the new Windows2000 Server operating system including Terminal Services (allows use of thin clients or remote PCs over the Internet or slow dial-up connections).

We are experienced in the full range of Microsoft Server Operating systems with most of our Small to Medium Enterprise clients running on a version called Small Business Server. Small Business Server provides various services including email & office management (Exchange), Internet Access with Firewall (Proxy), Database (SQL) and also network wide fax in/out.

In addition to Microsoft products we also have many years of experience of Novell and Unix/Linux systems.

Workstations
Although most personal computers/workstations are out of date (in technology terms) within 3-6 months, proper planning means that it should be 3-5 years before you need to consider changing or upgrading them. Identifying a good, cost competetive workstation can be a minefield - why waste time doing this yourself when an expert can do it for you.

Thin Client devices & Application Service Provision (ASP)
With Microsoft 2000 Server, Terminal Services is supplied as standard. This allows the 'thin client devices' such as diskless workstations or Personal Organisers to connect to the server and use applications as if they were an intelligent workstation (or PC) connected locally. This use of 'dumb' workstations means that the workstations themselves are more reliable leading to less down time and greater efficiency. IT Departments also love Thin Client solutions as they are easier to manage, are not prone to virus infection and are less susceptible to operator 'fiddling'.

We have provided thin Client solutions from a number of manufacturers including Wyse, Netier (which includes Video Conferencing hardware) and Microsoft CE or PocketWindows based systems such as the HP Jornada range.

Application Service Provision is another advantage of an Operating System such as Windows 2000 Server. Imagine that you have 10 users on a network. All 10 users need access to, say MS Access but 3 users need to be in it all the time and at any other time only 2 other users may be using it. According to existing licensing arrangements, you would have to buy a 10 user MS Access license but with ASP, you just install a 5 user license to the server and only 5 users could use the package at any one time.

Another example might be that you need access to specialist software which for one reason or another will not run on your local LAN. With ASP you could dial into an ASP server running that package and use the package as if it were located on your PC or LAN.
